There are signs like finding it difficult to take care of yourself properly. Losing the power of concentration is also a sign. (like watching TV and finding that you cannot follow the plot).
You will start to become paranoid about the fact that when you are out of your house, someone (like the landlord) will be visiting your property and putting mercury or arsenic in your milk.
You might find that you meet this beautiful girl at work, who comes around to your place every now and then. Make sure you take a photocopy of her passport and keep it in a safe place, as she will vanish off the planet soon.
Madness is a state of mind. You yourself are the best judge of your sanity. How other people perceive you is irrelevant unless there is any harm being done to yourself or anyone else.
We can therefore all be mad if we want to, so long as the madness is harmless. If we all were mad, then there would be no normal people. That would create a very strange world!
See that happy moron,
He doesn't give a hang.
I wish I was a moron,
My god perhaps I am.

For me.... my visitors (family friends etc) were able to tell me.
If one is truly alone, you tend to realise just as your mind get's a little too stressed, that things are going bad.... at that point, you have to seek help, much after that you will go happily barmy, and hope to god someone finds you before it goes too far and you become a danger to yourself.
