If there is one word to describe ICICIDirect.com , then it would be 'HELL'.
I began to understand the dark side of ICICI Direct while trading in the past. Here are a few bugs with their system.
(a) Remember with ICICI Direct, it is NOT possible to trade for the first 10 to 30 odd minutes or so and quite possibly the last 10 minutes as well. If you don’t believe me, just try placing a limit trade (that can hopefully never get filled, usual disclaimers apply!) for yourself at 9:55 AM. The chances are that you will see this order QUEUED for more than 10 minutes. During queueing, there is no way for the trader to modify/cancel the order.
This bug has bitten me more than once when I placed my MARKET orders at 9:55 AM. They usually get filled 10 to 30 minutes later and at a much less or greater than anticipated price.
(b) When executing a CASH market trade, never, ever, click on the 'Proceed' button more than once. Here's why you shouldn't !
I wanted to dispose off 50 shares of RIL. When I placed my SELL order by clicking on the 'Proceed' button, the system hung up on me. I waited for like an eternity. I pinged my ISP servers to ensure there was nothing wrong with the ISP. When I found out everything was fine with the ISP, I - as most people would logically do - clicked on the 'Proceed' button yet again. Still nothing. Out of sheer frustration, I clicked it once more. This time though, the system did come out with a message stating the order was sent out to the exchange. I go look at my order status and god forbid, I had sold off 150 shares of my RIL. Each click on the 'Proceed' button counts as 1 DISTINCT order. Mind you, the 'Proceed' button was NEVER, ever, GREYED out.
When I did complain about this to my personal contact with ICICI Direct, he argued my expectations of GREYING the 'Proceed' push button is quite lofty
(c) A couple of times I tried modifying my F & O orders, but to no avail. Each time, I changed the limit price for my F & O order from say Rs 100 to Rs 95, the limit price always remained static at Rs 100. Finally out of disgust, I cancelled the order. Guess what ? The cancelled order went into a QUEUED status (the state where you can neither modify nor cancel) and the trade gets FILLED about an hour after I had made my cancellation request. And after sending back emails back and forth with ICICIDirect.com, here's what they said.
"As per the request taken the concerned team has confirmed us that the mentioned problem occured due to the technical error on the date you had mentioned."
"With respect to your service request, until the confirmation regarding the order cancellation has been sent to you, it cannot be assumed for the order be cancelled. Hence we will be unable to refund you in this regard."
Mind you, the CANCELLED order was placed in a QUEUED basket for more than an hour. Any trade placed in a QUEUE CANNOT be MODIFIED. Yet, ICICIDirect.com places the liability on us. DUH!
(d) Now I decide to bail out of ICICI and move on to Geojit securities. It was about this time that ICICI came up with a new password policy. And for some strange reason, my ICICI Direct account gets locked. I had more than Rs 10L allocated for F & O. As there's no way I could trade in my locked account, I ask the service representative to de-allocate the entire money to my bank account. Her answer: ICICI cannot release the money from a LOCKED demat account. I wonder who else can ? Anyways, I made a request for them to reset my password and they have told me I would receive a new password in about 8 business days. I wonder what happens when F&O expiry is upon you and the password gets misplaced? What about the money that is tied up doing nothing for the foreseeable future ?
