well it starts most of the time on the first try but i find when its cold or humid it doesnt start right away but always works on the second try, what could the problem be?

you might have some type of vapor lock in the fuel line , or the fuel pump just isnt holding the pressure u need in the line,,if its starting the second time, it leads me to believe its a fuel pressure issue

Sound like the fuel check valve is letting the fuel pressure off. some times advancing the timing will help with this.if it's not the fuel. if it is a Manuel carburetor you need to pump the pedal three to four times before starting.

Fuel supply,if it is carburated then the carb may be leaking down and it takes the fuel pump a few seconds to catch up.If it is F.I.,you may have a bad pressure regulator

the word humid is the key here, replace distributor cap and rotor ( always as a set please ) and the plug wires, while you're at it clean the low voltage (small ) wires to the distributor

Cold and moisture in the engine.

It's normal, don't worry about it.
