why do my hips hurt? every time i play a sport... after i'm done they really ache. what causes it? it always happens. i have to admit... i have had expiriences with alcohol and cigarettes in the past. but not anymore. could that be why???

You don't say how old you are but you could have a couple of things. Arthritis is usually the main reason for hip pain and hip-replacements. Second, you could have degenerative bone disease. I have a friend that was 34 years old and walking around the county fair with his family and just fell to the ground, his right leg gave out on him. He was a brick mason and sat on his haunches a lot laying foundations and such. Anyway, his ball on the end of his thigh bone was just about gone. I'm not trying to scare you but you sound like you need to have your doc do some x-rays and find out what's going on.
