I would like to purchase a printer that I can allow my children to use freely without having to be concerned about the cost of having to replace black & colour ink cartridges too often. Can anyone recommend a printer that is economical on its ink use please? Thanks.

Buy your ink on ebay, a fraction of the cost.

Look for a printer that uses separate colour ink cartridges as these are, generally, cheaper to replace than single cartridges, which may still contain ink of one or more colours.

My own is an Epson Stylus Photo R300, which uses six separate cartridges. Admittedly, the printer was fairly expensive (compared to some others) at £105 (probably cheaper now) but I can buy a complete set of cartridges for about £10.

One thing to bear in mind with Epson printers is that the print heads are built into the printer, whereas with the majority of other printers, the print heads are built into the ink cartridges (one reason why they're so expensive to replace). This means that once the print heads have died, it's usually cheaper to replace the printer than have the print heads replaced. Don't let me put you off Epson, though. I've had my printer for years now, and it shows no sign of giving up the ghost.

One advantage of my printer is that it allows you to print directly onto CDs/DVDs, though you do have to make sure you purchase printable CDs/DVDs to record on. (You can record to other types of CD/DVD but you, obviously, can't print onto the surface of them.)

My Epson R320 Photo Printer cartridges work out at £00.40 pence each (not a typo, FORTY PENCE ). I use "Continuous Ink System", This system runs on 100ml bottles of each colour, replacement cost of ink, £20.00 for 6 bottles, one of each colour. The whole system (including 600ml of ink) is £45.00. 600ml of ink is equal to about 45 cartridges....

Great co. to deal wth, i had slight problem, new system arrived before i had chance to send dodgy one.
Works great, I dont care how much colour I print.....If you work it out you can afford to buy a couple of new printers by the time you used the ink up....!!!!!

maximum printer cartridges could be injected with greater much low-priced ink. I do it with mine. you're able to desire to purchase ink packs, and a syringe type gadget, and actually inject new ink into the cartridges. that way, you are able to opt for how high priced ot cheep the ink is, mutually as nevertheless useing a nicely suited cartage. and you do not pay for the cartridges every time the two.
