Abbreviation, in itself, is not a abbreviation, so obviously it is not going to be small, and concise, but more of a broad word, and catagorize much of the definition of the word "abbreviation" and obviously, since many words in the english language arrange themselves with latin words, or are similar to those of latin words, so thus, the long word, "abbreviation", now try to answer that for "antidisestablishmentterrianism" LOL

Same logic as:
Why is a hot water heater called that? Hot water doesn't need heating.
Why do you drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

By the way, it's "Abbreviation" with an "i".
You don't want "Abbreviation" a long word? Abbreviate it! Like "Abbr." That'll do.

It's used to describe other things, not itself.
The word orange isn't orange.
The word bouncy isn't bouncy.
The word long is quite short!
