I have mirena, and I love it. you should be able to feel the strings. What he feels sharp and poking him is most likely the strings. He should be able to feel the strings with his fingers. If neither of you can feel them, you need to get back to the doctor to make sure it's in place.

It's fairly difficult to get pregnant. Most pregnancies that occur with an iud inplace are ectopic anyway.

incidentally, the iud belongs in your uterus. You worry about it coming out of your uterus. Almost never happens if you've had at least one child.

I have the five year Mirena. My husband used to complain about being "poked". All it was was that the wire was too long you can go to the doctors and they just trim it up for you. Sometimes you kinda have to search around for the wire..it should be wrapped around your cervix. I have had mine for 3 years now and problems yet but if you start feeling stomach pains go tp the doctor immediatly the IUD could have slipped into your uterus.
