I have suffered with pcos for years i was diagnosed about 8 years ago with it and iv never had any treatment for it i do use the contraceptive pill but this is through my own choice but iv heard a good diet and exercise helps the condition settle down i still managed to have a child in 2002 after 3 months of trying and plan to have my 4th child within the next few years but i dont really know if i will need any help next time round as my condition is never monitored so i dont know if the condition as got any better or any worse as i do still suffer with weight problems and some acne on my back which are symptoms of pcos you should go to a alternative thearipist to discusse treatments you can take they will help you out good luck

It depends on what you consider "alternative treatment." Most doctors will slap you on birth control and send you on your merry way. In my experience this is a band-aid for a stabbing wound. Insulin resistance and PCOS go hand in hand, which is what most doctors WON'T tell you - if you have PCOS, chances are that you are insulin resistant, and vice versa. Sometimes one develops before the other, but in the end, they are usually best buddies, those illnesses.
I take metformin, which used to be the go-to to treat diabetes type 2, and is now also used in treating insulin resistance as well. For those who have only moderately elevated insulin, a low-carb low-sugar diet has been said to work wonders.

I used to take Metformin as a preventative for Diabetes but a specialist said it was not really necessary so I stopped due to cost and just eat healthy and exercise several times a week. You can also take Aldactone/Spironolactone to balance your hormones. Otherwise laser treatment for body hair and normal weight loss mechanisms if necessary.
