You're right, however the difference you pointed out is due to cultural differences among different areas of the world.
For indian women having a pierced nostril (usually the left one, sometimes both) was already a fashion commonplace some centuries ago. They used to pierce both nostrils and earlobes, hence a nose piercing is deeply rooted in indian female tradition. You can easily see very old indian women wearing a nostril ring, same as only young caucasian girls use to do because it's a very recent fashion trend in Europe and America.
Many people don't judge caucasian girls with pierced earlobes but hardly tolerate any other kind of body-piercing. Pierced earlobes now belong to our tradition, however for many years having pierced earlobes was a sort of fashion taboo: only afro or hispanic girls used to have them done, while up to the 1970s the vast majority of caucasian women did not pierce their ears at all and used to consider clip-on earrings more trendy and fashionable!
Before the widedpread diffusion of piercing guns at jewelry stores and malls pierced ears were considered just for bad girls!
Nowadays almost every caucasian woman (age doesn't matter) has pierced (often multi-pierced) earlobes. It's not just commonly accepted but considered to be a "must" for any girl or woman who cares about her look.
Since nose piercing is now becoming a commonplace among caucasian teenage girls (IMO it looks cute, expecially a very small diamond stud), chances are it will be commonly accepted by everyone in the upcoming years, and maybe older women will take the plunge and have their nostril done to look more trendy, exactly as many 50 or 60 yrs old women with still unpierced earlobes did one or two decades ago in order to start showing off cute pierced earrings!

its not a religious thing its a cultural thing.
lets put it this way what would you think if a guy had a full Maurie facial tattoo?
and he hadn't even been to New Zealand ,let alone be part of one of the tribes, you would think him a bit weird, as it has no cultural meaning to him its the same kind of thing
would you weir a sari ?and would you feel comfortable doing so?
I personally would feel daft in a turban or a cowboy hat because I aint Pakistani or American.
but body piercing are more a individual statement of individuality and enhance in (certain cases) sexual activities
I hade my nose pierced in 1983 and I am a guy but was strong enough to ignore it.
being a freak now is easy most people (in England any how) have seen it done it and got the t-shirt to prove it and the shock value has gone in the main
i think in spite of its so called freedom of individuality America is not as tolerant as GreatBrittan I i used to pierce people for a living but I dont want to go into a full in-depth analysis on this now but i hope this helps

Yeah, you're right, I think caucasian girs get a dirty look for nose piercing every now and then. I think it's a matter of what's considered traditional. I don't think piercing has to do with religion in this case.

yes. different countries have diff. religions. india ot subcontinential have this tradition of getting their nose pierced(i think?) and if caucasian pierce their nose i think they are trying to look like gangsters? if they have their ears pierced(which is a must for any girls in any part of the world) i think it is fine. even a belly piercing would be fine(but only 1 will do) but if you pierce your nose/tongue you are trying to look like a gangster

I only have a few visible piercings - my nose among them & I get judged, I get crap service & can't get a job. It's pathetic - how does a bit of metal in me or the colour of my hair affect my ability to perform in the workplace?

It depends on what and how many piercings you are talking about. If you have a few piercings (ears or bellybutton) and it is in good taste, then I have no problem. Now if you are one of those who nutjob and have to have them all over your body, then it becomes tacky, tacky, tacky.
