Does anyone know if this is true? I usually work at least 35 hours a week, but on some days I get one two hour job, and then I'm done for the rest of the day. What does the California Labor law say?

It is two hours.

If you show up for a time that you were already assigned or if they call you to come into work they are required by law to pay a minimum of two hours.

The way I understood it when I was working as asst manager and scheduling at my old job. 4 hours was the shift required for a 10 min break. I think the law says that if an employer provides for a minimum shift, then they must pay the minimum shift no matter how long a person worked. My minimum shift was 3 hours, your employer may not provide a minimum shift. Don't quote me on this though, its been 2 months since I left and 5 months since I did any scheduling.

California labor laws are the most marxist in the country. I wouldn't be surprised if employers who transgress have to perform self-criticism in front of a huge poster of Gray Davis.

Neither you nor the state have the right to force an employer to give you more than four hours. But then, who cares about rights anymore?
