I'm sick of gays being used as whipping boys and targets for cheap jokes. Classed as sinners and perverts when it suits society. I know of loads of famous, infleuntial and even world leaders that were gay, where's the credit deserved?

There's obviously lots of famous gays. In general I'd say gays are slightly over-represented in creative fields like literature, music etc. Not because being gay makes you inherently more likely to be good at these things - but because most creative people get to be good observers because they've been shut out or detached from society in some way. Our history of bigotry towards gays has created this feeling of detachment and ostracization in many gays, which certainly is a bad thing overall, but one silver lining is we get people like Oscar Wilde who seemed driven and inspired by it.

Also, it's hard to tell how many historical greats have been gay, because it's only very recently that people didn't feel the need to hide it.

How about Oscar Wilde - a complete class of his own when it comes to literature and literary criticism. I am sure that most people who are 'anti-gay' must find at least something he said or wrote as amusing or insightful - you just cant deny his genius with the english language. And this is without the fact that he was sent to prison for his lifestyle choices - definately an icon in my opinion!
Another person who certainly deserves respect as a fantastic performer and intellectual is Steven Fry. I aboslutely love him and nevr miss programmes taht he is appearing on (although the tea adverts can be a bit annoying). I am really interested in the quirks of our langugae which is probably why I have chosen these to write about.
On a more general level I really dont understand why a persons sexual life has such an impact on there professional careers - it really shouldnt matter an dhas no impact at all how well (or badly) they can do a job. I am sure there are plenty of people in high powered jobs who are heterosexual that are really c*** at their jobs, but this does not get into the news. totally unfair in my opinion!
Anyway that is enough ranting from me - I am sure you are bored of me going on!
I will leave you with this thought (which I heard ages ago and cant remember where from):
People in America were stopped on the streets and asked that if their president went on national television and admitted to being a heterosexual would they still vote for him - the vast majority of people said no!!
I am not sure where / where this was - but just goes to show that a little understanding is a dangerous thing!
Have a nice day x

Many of the Roman Emperors were Bisexual, having indescriminate orgies.

Eddie Izzard, Boy George, Elton John, the Village People, most of the scissor sisters etc are all poofs, but I like some of their work (not an Elton John/Culture Club fan.)

I don't personally know any gay famous people, I have a couple of gay mates, but they're not famous.

Your question seems to have two edges - you want to know famous people who are gay...then you harp on about how society treats them. What would you do if a handful of names were offered to you? Kick rear of your new discoveries, or express respect?
If indeed you are genuinely concerned about verdicts of society towards, what you call 'puffs', you shouldn't worry, as the main 'evils' are Muslims...with (like gays) most people not really knowing why they're so vexed - just that it is the fashionable thing to do right now.

Puffs... well apart from Puff the Magic Dragon, I'm rather stumped there. But I have known people called Blow. There was a famous composer called John Blow (1649 - 1708), although he was a little before my time.

Well, the first two answerers completely misunderstood your question. Might be cos it's more usually spelt "poof" but more likely because they are thick.

Yes, I'm tired of it too, one thing that always moves me is the number of young men who, shamed by their sexuality and fearful of being discovered, go off to fight and die in wars, sacrificing themselves for their country and thus avoiding the whole marriage, children and a lifetime of hypocrisy issue.

Let's forget about celebrities, we all know about them. Let's celebrate the millions of ordinary, gay young men who gave their lives for a society which would have rejected them if they had been open about their sexuality.

Take Care

Do you mean anybody that is famous for BEING a "puff", or do you mean anybody that is gay and is famous?

Either way, I don't. No. I don't know anyone who is famous at all for anything - yet. Similarly, I don't know the sexual preferences of all the people that I have met.

I am impressed that you have had the privilege of meeting loads of famous, influential, gay world leaders though.

If there were no Sodomites = gays, the world would be short of something, their time shell pass as anybody else.
What worries me most is the fact that watching the blues with women, all go for anal, as if that is the proper way to do it!
