I am into my teens but my periods have not yet started. Lately I have been feeling a mild pain in the lower abdomen. Does that have anything to do with the starting of periods? How do they begin, do I get to know beforehand?

Yeah, this is how they start. Your lower abs ache, it may continue for a couple of days, and then - there you go, you need some pads... No, you won't get any other "warning" signs. At least I didn't. It usually like a few drops in the first few hours, so don't worry you won't get flooded with it right away.

A lot of women don't begin till around 16. My daughter, who is now 15, got hers last year. For about a year prior, she would complain about lower abdominal pain. Don't worry, it is going to come eventually. Be ready and be prepared. Go to the store and buy a box of pads, and store it underneath the cupboards so that when you do begin, you have something. Take one in the purse, with you wherever you go, wrapped inside a ziplock baggie so it stays clean. When you begin, no matter where you are, you will have it with you. Also, they now sell little wipes. In between, you can use them to clean off with so you are very sanitary. They are also able to fit into a purse. Good luck and welcome to womanhood...it will arrive when it's ready, but it sounds like it's on its way. :)

This is the curse of the cramps little sister. My advice to you is start packing around a mini tampon with you just in case. That way there are no accidents. If the pain persists for more than a couple of months than go and get checked out by a doctor. Welcome to the sisterhood. Good luck.

You usually won't know beforehand.
You are still in the 'normal range' if you get your period by 16. If you haven't got it by 17 or 18, you will need to go to a doctor to get a check up on that.

Just a side note my sisters and I all started around 11-12 years old, so it is possible
