In australia (queensland) junk food by 2007 will be banned in all public schools. At the moment in our school ,our tuckshop has had some dramatic changes thats for sure! its cut all lollies, chips etc and replaced the old menu with a new healthy on.
Salad rolls, fruit salad, apple slinky things, fresh juice instead of bottled etc.
Everyone doesnt seem to mind, it took awhile for everyones anger to go away when they took our Coke machine away lol but we are over it now and should be getting a Juice machine soon. I think it is really good that these changes have been made and i think the rest of the world should follow australia because childhood obesity isnt going anywhere when kids have access to coke, lollies and chips all day long at school!

Alot of people still put junk in the lunch box. I was suprised to hear chocolate milk was banned which i thought better than softdrink. I think the ban is needed. You don't need lollies and chips at school. And nobody needs deep fried food. Still it should have been up to the parents to feed their kids properly in the first place. What I see is it is usually the quantity of food that is the trouble - the portions are so much larger now.

I think we should be as careful choosing what goes into our children's stomachs as we are what we put in their heads, so yes I would support a junk food ban in schools. Poor nutrition means poor learning ability, poor health, and poor prospects for the future, physically and mentally. Although a certain amount of junk food has an appropriate place in the diet, children need to be taught to choose what and when. As they will not be able to make those wise choices for a while, it makes sense to limit the availability of it to them. It's no use lecturing about a healthy diet and making good choices if you are going to sabotage it all by putting all the "goodies" in reach and expecting them to march straight by for the broccoli. It's not realistic to expect. We should put a bit of effort in making the school lunches and snacks more appetizing, while we're at it. Kids may never learn to love the broccoli, but if it comes with a side of ranch dip, instead of being boiled to death, they might learn to at least tolerate it better. Otherwise, who can blame them for choosing the chips?

Junk food is not good for growning children. It is not nutritional and therefore should be banned. There should be an educational programme at the school that educates children in good eating habits.

I don't think that it should necessarily be banned but I think that we should be teaching our children to make good choices ...maybe not have soda but have Gatorade and juices and water..not necessarily ban chocolate but have energy bars ..not ban chips but have baked chips and if it is banned i think in all fairness that their should be a special day each week or every other week that it is available to the students..if you tell someone they can't have something they will turn to it especially kids...but i think maybe control availability
