In school, some of it I took a programming book and just started coding. My first program was a Battleship type game. After that I got interested in programming RPGs. But I was more interested in the graphics creating little creatures. I liked designing the helmets weapons and shields.

It was part of the curriculum at technical college. I became a proficient programmer only after I started writing programs. It's best to start with a simple program, such as one that pops a window with a message up on the screen. Then you can go on to ever greater complexity. As you are programming, keep handy your reference materials as to language syntax.
