A good imagination, good writing skills and interest in and ever increasing knowledge of science. Do you read about the latest scientific discoveries and get excited? Are you always asking "what if?" and coming up with answers that aren't quite possible but maybe could be. If you are going to earn money from writing sci fi you have to be willing to work at it. Isaac Asimov worked long hours and hardly ever took a day off.

First, use punctuation ONCE and ONCE ONLY. Second, refrain from using all caps, as I just have. It takes patience, a good vocabulary, imagination of where technology and society are going, political intrigue and above all, a good spell checking program.
