Speaking as a (very early!) retiree myself, I say...no, it is NOT fair.
I was able to retire breathtakingly early because of my personal circumstances; I do not draw SS, and probably never will be entitled to, anyway.
The SS system needs a re-vamp, as well as the Income Tax; the proposed Fair Rate Tax is a better plan.
Oh, and, our first respondent above can go jump in a (deep) lake.

wow that first answer was pretty harsh. is it fair? not really, because you are right, we probably wont see a dime of it. however the people that collect it now also paid into for their entire working lives, so yes they deserve it. lets hope someone comes out with a plausible modification to the system so that we too will be able to claim our share when it is due to us.

Wow, Jim....next time tell us how you really feel.
The answer is no.Not only is it not fair, our govt. borrows the
money to fund other things as if it were a credit card.
As a 40yr. old I wonder if I will get to collect, and I have been paying since I was 14.

no i don't. you know why you don't get any S S when you retire is because all the people that don't work & don't want to work use all the money to stay alive & buy there drugs.
