a 20 foot container is considered a TEU...a Trailer Equivilent Unit......and the big container ships carry anywhere from 1500 to, at the largest, 8,000 of them!

There really is no average vessel. We get an average by taking into account all the big and small ones. How can one estimate the number of containers to be carried if there is no aveage size.
