Good question.....America, of course supports it's interests over democracy (see; bush administration for reference)...USA does however support the "illusion" of Democracy.

It would be idiotic for any country to put the interests of any other country ahead of its own. So, security in America should be more important than democracy anywhere else. The question should not be whether Democracy or Security is more important by itself. The question should be whether American interests should be supported (in America, by Americans) ahead of foreign interests. I am all for freedom and democracy for everyone in the world. But I don't think it's our sacred duty to give it to them. Our duty is to look out for #1, Good ol' USA. If this means invading other countries to take what they have, so be it. I'm all for it as long as its good for us.

Both. These would be in the agenda of any democratic government. Some are passive but US is always the active type. Interests yes as it wants to protect its resources in Iraq before Al-Qaeda extends its wing. Democracy yes also by ousting Saddam who with his sidekicks have been found to have murdered thousands of ordinary Iraqi citizens.

It's reliance on fossil fuels would suggest it's own interests first, it really was did not appear very interested in world peace and democracy when the IRA or the Bosnians were running amok, however they do believe strongly in democracy and it would be wrong to suggest otherwise.

A fainlty jaded view i admit but its all your gonna get from me. ;) H
