I believe that the toxins from smoking take a ling time to clear from the body, so smoking even a few will gradually havea long-term cumulative effect.
Of course the benefit is that the habit is far less pronounced, and therefore stopping altogether should be that much easier.

While it is better to be safe than sorry, I don't know if there is proof that 2 or 3 cigarettes a day can kill you. But I know there is proof of one thing: cigarette smoking is addictive. So whether or not you can die from 2 or 3 smokes a day is irrelevant because you won't be SMOKING 2 or 3 cigarettes a day: you'll be smoking 2 or 3 PACKS a day....not right away, of course. But don't be as stupid as I was. I used to think I was HOT STUFF because all those addicts were smokin' a pack a day and I would only smoke 2 or 3 cigarettes. That worked great until my girlfriend and I broke up. Then the number started to creep up and the better they worked against stress the more I smoked. Thank God I got off of them but I was up to a pack and a half by the time I quit and you will be, too. If you're smoking 2 or 3 and you stop now, you can avoid addiction. Otherwise, welcome to the unhealthy, lonely, expensive world of nicotine addiction.

You still have the negative effects of smoking even with one cigarette, one puff, and even with second hand smoking.
The problem with smoking is that much of its damage is cumulative. The body has trouble properly break down the chemicals that enter the body so they just sit there, which might not have been so bad, except...
A lot of the stuff is toxic. These toxins are not only difficult for the body to remove but will continue to poison the body while they are there. That's why some people die sooner than others. It just depends on how their bodies *react* to the poisons.

Anything thats put in your lungs as "smoke" is unnatural and unhealthy. When things are burns, they release free-radicals. Free-radicals are believed to cause cancer and heart disease. Cigarettes are worse because they contain additives that produce toxic fumes when combusted and make it worse than just the smoke alone. Some people smoke a pack a day for years and never get cancer, while some smoke one cigarette a day and DO get cancer. It all depends on how your body handles it. There is no safe way to smoke cigarettes. Your better off if you quit.

Assuming you are healthy and have healthy lungs, no. The effects of your smoking 2-3 cigarettes daily will have no effect on your overall health. It should not affect your participation in athletic endeavors (walking/working out/running etc) The problem is maintaining that 2-3 daily. Most people can't.

yes,one shouldnt smoke! I have over heard doctors state that in some cases, where one is already a smoker and one can maintain a limit of 2 or less a day, depending on the individual, there maybe a trade off because of the stress of continued failure trying to quit.
