If your baby is here and is already taking a certain brand I would say about 6 (3 packs) so you can have a better chance of finding one when you need it.
If you are still pregnant, I wouldn't stock up on a certain brand because the baby may not like that brand.
My daughter took the first pacifier she was given. My son went through 3 before deciding he liked one.

I bought a few for my daugher that we gave to her at about 6 or 7wks old, but no matter how many times we tried to get her to keep it in her mouth she'd always spit it out. Dont know if you are suppose to give it earlier, and that was why she rejected it (I was nursing though and didnt want to confuse her), or because I didnt realise there could be preferences like others are saying. There was one that was deemed 'nighttime' that worked pretty well for awhile, but after about a mth of using that she decided she didnt like that one either.
If she does go for them, I'd say 6 pacifiers sounds about right so you can put them around the house. We had 3 and that was not enough, they get dirty/lost fast and you dont want to waste time trying to hunt a clean one down at 3am when your baby is crying!

I had at least 6 .... But start with one or two because not all babies take pacifires. Two of my kids did, and my youngest (10months) won't. And some babies prefer different types and shapes of soothers, my kids liked the Nuk ones but my friends kids would only take the rounded ones....

my daughter will ONLY take the soothie pacifiers. Those are the ones that were given to her in the hospital and I bought 6 different kinds and she just spit them right out.
It is NOT a quick fix for a crying baby like some say. If your baby really is hungry or wet or bored, and you attempt to put a pacifier in their mouth they will spit it out and begin to cry again. You will get the point that they really need something.

I have my child using soothe pacifiers (they are the ones from the hospital nursery) he uses the vannilla flavored ones...
anyways, we keep about 6 at any given time brand new so if he drops one I always have a replacement without having to go scrub them down constantly.
with a newborn you don't want to keep having to run back to that sink every 5 min..

Ok this is hard because it depends on how attatched your newborn is to the pacifier....my son was breast fed until i returned to work 7 wks later...he became addicted to his pacifier so We had one in each car as a back up, plus my purse, the baby sitter, home and the one on a bungee cord attatched to him...so you may need a lot or a few depends on how much you want to hear your baby scream!

Oh, I would buy as many two packs as you may need. I have never really 'lost' them per se, just around the nursery and my home, but it is always good to have plenty on hand.
When my twins were born preemies, the nurses gave them Soothie Pacifiers. I believe Tar'get sells them in two packs.
Hope this helps you..

My infant is very few weeks older than yours yet from what i have realized, giving him the pacifier has its up and downs. infant loves the pacifier and could cry plenty at the same time as it falls out, so i'm continually having to positioned it decrease back in his mouth (pretty at nighttime) My son sleeps throughout day and up at nighttime too. in spite of the actual incontrovertible truth that i do not shop him on a agenda i attempt to wake him up plenty in the course of the day so he can sleep extra constructive at nighttime. in a number of of situations he''ll sleep on the hours of darkness and awaken round 4 or 5. Giving him the pacifier also confuses him slightly when I attempt to breastfeed yet after some tries of having him to latch on wisely he''ll ultimately get it. using the pacifier does result milk furnish, mine has went down plenty and that i must apply some formula too now. i did not furnish you with a particular answer yet i desire that permits some!

Get several different kinds, and when the baby establishes a preference, buy a bunch of that kind. It doesn't take too long for a baby to decide which one he or she likes.
In my experience, they like soothies, nuks, and avent fairly well. Not so much maam, which is a shame because those are really cute.

About 6 packs to start. Usually they lose all of them by the time they need the next size. Never use the straps that attach to clothing---it can choke them while asleep. If they try sucking their fingers or thumb do not let them. It's impossible to hide it when you are trying to break them, and they can suck their fingers too hard and cause an infection (learned that one the hard way)
