In Spain and other countries, when you are fired, the company has to pay you severance money. It is like 45 days of salary for every year you have worked for the company. Do they have the same in the US?

If you were affected by a reduction in force, you may be eligible for severance, depending on company policy.

In countries where employees are taken care of "from the cradle to the grave", that may be the case, but in the US when you get fired, you only get what was earned. There is no reward for poor performance.
