Maybe I'm just fake. and when I think most if not all friends are superficial its actually just me beng fake. or maybe i have too high of standards and I can never find true friends who to me don't seem fake. is there some type of philosophical thought or branch that deals with this mindset. like existentialism or whatever. how can i improve my mindset.

Most people are superficial. Stay as you are and just value each of them for what you consider is their best quality. You can always learn something useful, even from the worst person on this planet. Just dont't be so judgemental. Enjoy the part you like.

this really depends on the type of friends you have and why you consider them your friends. if you like them and you can talk to them, why not just make them less superficial. start a socratic conversation, just slip something in to make them think. you don't have to come out with "what is justice?" or anything like that. you can bring up something like.... "if you had the choice to run over a deer, or swerve into a tree and wreck your car, what would you do?"

and then ask them why they would choose what they did. would they swerve to save a deer's life? or would they swerve because the deer might cause more damage than the tree? would they go for the deer because swerving might endanger their own lives? it has underlying moral questions, but it's not too in-your-face.

if you feel like your friends are superficial, then take steps to make them deep. bring up those hard questions, make them think. get them to think about controversial issues like stem-cell research, get them to take a stand and ask them to actually back it up. you can have great debates and you'll all learn something, even if it's just how to argue well.

i don't know what type of friends you have, but talking and discussing gets your mind going, it makes you have to think on your feet, create logical connections, convey and persuade.

it's awesome, and it makes for the greatest friendships. you have to get into each other's heads a bit.

Feel you should take a good look at yourself, there are many good people and friends out there, just be more open and don't expect so much, giving is the most important thing in life.
