Hello. I am looking for honest answers and comments for females who are currently taking or had taken Yasmin. I'm 19 yrs old and this is my first time taking birth control pill. I read all the side effects and risks in taking b/c but I'm curious as to how many females actually experience serious side effects such as blood clots, cancer, strokes, etc?? I got kinda worry even though I'm a non smoker and am in pretty healthy conditions.
Also, I started my first pill on a Sunday but it's AFTER my period.... is that okay? Thank you so much for reading through all this!

If you're taking it to not get pregnant, I'd say the benefits outweigh the risks.

If you're taking it to regulate hormones, or regulate your period--stop taking it and research some other methods, such as using progesterone cream and herbs.

The reason that your risk for cancer is higher is because birth control pills contain synthetic hormones, especially synthetic estrogens. High levels of estrogen (especially synthetics) give you a higher risk for cancer.

You should research other methods of birth control and make sure that this is right for you.

Those are pretty common warnings that are given with every pill, but the percentage of those complications occuring are obviously not high enough for the safety of the pill to be questioned. I had severe problems with the pill - especially Yasmin - myself, but none that induced a stroke or blood clots. Quite the opposite.

I think the Yasmin package insert says that's OK, but please read it to be sure. I think if you use the Sunday start method that you have to continue to use a backup method of birth control for the entire first month, not just the first week or two as recommended.

All birth control pills have the side effect of blood clots, stroke and cancer. All of them. They are almost never seen in nonsmokers. It's a good pill, give it a chance.

You're supposed to start taking the pill sunday after your period starts. So if you started on saturday, you'd start the pill on the next day. So I can't really answer that part of the question without further info. But you can technically start the pill during any part of your cycle. Your ovaries don't know what day it is.

I've been on Yasmin for about a month. I have not expeienced anything out of the ordinary. I have been on oral controceptives for about 5 years and nothing has really changed, except I did gain a little bit of weight. When it comes down to it, would you rather gain 5 pounds or gain a baby?
