Dude that laptop pretty much beats my desktop anyday, i would say at least a year or so before its out of date. The Core 2 Duo has only just came out and with a Geforce 7600 that will last you ages.
Take care

the system its self seems pretty good, however the main chip does not run very fast and if you wish to put on windows vista then it does not meet the minimum spec, it will however run xp fine maybe just a little bit slow, your processor needs to be 3.2ghz as a minimum really, i have a hp laptop, it is very good just the battery life is only about an hour and a half but it has a 19 inch wide screen on it very nice and only costs £1200 (HP Pavillion), have a look at there website and you can see what you can get, just make sure that it has a good video card in it for your games.

This spec Laptop should be more than enough for your needs and if your needs are the same next week then it will not be out of date. You have plenty of RAM on this machine which is a major factor in keeping a PC or laptop working at its optimum level. I recently added Ram to a Laptop that is 5 years old and it works great for the internet and many simple applications- so your laptop should give you years of use. Of course there will always be faster machines, but hey when your needs change donate it to someone and buy yourself a new one.

1.8 GHz isn't too hot, but its still faster than many older systems. The rest of the spec is fine.
This laptop will do pretty much what you want it to do, but no, it wont be top if its field when you buy it, let alone in a few weeks
Technology changes all the time, and fast, but it doesn't make your new toy any less effective. Are you buying it as a fashion statement or do you plan to actually use it.

wow. this computer will cost u quite a lot. alternatively you can check out the dell xps 1210. its probably a lot cheaper. you dont have to worry about laptops going outdated. cause they dont usually last long anyway. that laptop is lready more than you'll ever need. 2GB RAM is quite overkill. maybe check out models that offer 1GB RAM but a T7200 processor which runs at 2.0 GHz.
dont think you'd need a 200GB harddisk either. you'll be able to get a much better price for a dell computer. and you can customise it too.
all the best

The Vaios are great and even the low battery time isn't much of a problem - that is a compromise well worth taking. I've had an F series Vaio for four years and still using it - haven't updated it at all but you can get them updated easily enough later on if you want. Go for it!

youre a salesmans wet dream... yes of course it'll be superceeded in a month... and the next useless piece of hardware will appear..
software development is around 3 years behind hardware. (no point in writiing stuff that will only work on 1% of the populations PC's.. youll only need a new PC if youre running the latest games or doing the accounts for England PLC.
i built my K6 2.8ghz 3 years ago for 200 quid, its fast. in fact my youngest daughter has my old 800mhz, and it stikll works perfectly... and shes on the internet every day with it, and it doesnt slow the network down. (weve got 3pcs and a laptop)
lappys are great toys... but they break easily, and you cant upgrade them....and folks steal them should they get the opportunity. and when youve plugged everything in, its a nightmare of wires and USB hubs.

Why obsess about being top newest?
Get a notebook that is strong, durable and lightweight so it will survive to be outdated.
The idea is to own the pr0ducti0n t00| so you can use it.
Cheapest platform(s) you can afford that will do the job, and spend your money on peripherals.
If you need all that craçk, cash & grill, you might need to use two boxes.

pretty much as soon as a piece of hardware hits the shops, it is superceded by something new being developed... you can never hope to EVER be on top of the situation...
go with what works for you, and worry about changing it in 2 years or so... ;)
