The fact that it folds up suggests that it is intended to be carried in a pocket and used outdoors. And the fact that I found it buried in the sand by the river. But the serrated blade was a surprise. It's a great knife. It's very sharp. I cleaned it thoroughly and have been using it to chop vegetables.

A serrated blade does not imply outdoor use.

A serrated blade is generally designed so it does not require sharpening during its lifetime. To gain this benefit, you sacrifice the degree of sharpness.

First thing- a serrated blade is not a suitable blade for chopping vegetables, its for chopping meat. This can be shown by doing a comprehensive study of the types of animal teeth. Secondly, A serrated blade is not meant and designed to be sharpened. Thirdly, a serrated blade is not obviously intended for outdoors, it means that it has some specific materials which it is meant to cut on. End of story.

Ask yourself why someone would bury a knife by a river.

After you answer this question, ask yourself whether or not you think it's a good idea to chop vegetables with it.

If it is a murder weapon, you've probably already gotten rid of any physical (DNA) evidence. It probably either went down the drain or now resides on your vegetables. However, if this was used in a crime, it may still be used as evidence. The type of weapon as well as where you found it may gives clues to an unsolved crime.

Give it to the police, and get tested for diseases.
