dekameter=10 meters
hectometer=100 meters
kilometer=1000 meters

we only use kilometer in Germany.
for an areal we have different way to measure width


1 Hekta = 100 squaremeters
1 Ar = 10 squaremeters
1 Morgen = 25 squaremeters

deca = 10^1
hecta = 10^2
kilo = 10^3
deci = 10^-1
centi = 10^-2
milli = 10^-3

These prefixes are valid for most units..
