Come on, Splodge...Americans have a different sense of humour - and we in the UK have been happy to lap it up...and even take some of it on. That is an old and tiresome argument...and you'd be surprised at the German humour also.
Looks like Answers is the best chance ever for people, who usually are not listened to, or dissed (to quote a well known American term which we all use now), to let their beliefs and vexed answers be seen by more than just a group either at work or in a pub.
Sorry, Smithy, old son...just saying that Answers is like a Sunday afternoon on Marble Arch corner at Hyde Park, with many of us eager to air our grievances, but unlike the corner, we can do it in a warm room, with mug of tea with no physical comebacks!
Lady Rebecca (bless 'er) has the idea...armchair anarchists. 100 feet away from their computer, and they're lost.

How 'sensitive' does one expect people to be?
If the question is legitimate, and is answered by a lot of non-sense and rubbish, then the Asker may well feel let down, or rubbished over something asked that is intensely important to him / her.
When someone asks a question like... 'Lights on or off?' I'd treat that as 'lighthearted.' But if someone explained a problem / question with some background, then I'd respond appropriately ~ with some seriousness.
A dumb / smart throwaway 'laugh' line could simply be unhelpful or be experienced as a smack in the face.
Ultimately, the way we receive the answers (particularly in the negatives) has to be seen for what they are - and treated accordingly.
There is such a thing as 'Dignity' and the appropriate 'Respect' too, regarding many questions ~ even if we don't agree with the point of view of the person asking the question.
With that said: I personally have gotten really pissed-off when having ''taken time to write a question,'' have had an answer from someone who has not ''taken the time to read it'' (properly) and got it back to front. (and I'll admit to having done the same thing myself - and 'Stand Guilty')
Sash.

Absolutely - people go off like a frog in a sock over absolutely nothing!!
It constantly amazes me how seriously people take this website, like it's the be all and end all of their universe - it's actually a very interesting social study!
When I joined I thought it was a simple concept for a bit of fun - I still do, but there are some downright psychos out there along with some migthy disturbed, mighty perversed and then there are quite a lot of cool dudes too.
The most comical things I find are the questions from:
The armchair anarchists
The armchair revolutionists
The armchair philosophers
And the armchair "Don't really fit into any category but like to post sweeping political statements posing as questions"
It's all good fun though

Some are, but I think it comes from the frustration of really needed help with a question and getting insulting answers. Some people take this information tool seriously. There isn't anything wrong with asking people about their life experiences. I know I take it seriously and when I ask a question, I always hope for serious replies. Have a great day. : )

This is for me a discussions forum. If people are too sensitive to hearing other people's opinions, why are they on here asking questions?
I think Answers is a great idea, but they need to somehow filter out all the people that do not use it properly!

Are they? Damn right a lot of us are. I've woken up too a little bit. We're talking about best answers not right answers. So if we see an answer we should try to see if there was something funny in the answer before moaning or reporting. So I don't need to cry no more if an answer is funny and gets the 10 pts over an answer which is correct.

Far too sensitive, people do need sensible answers but a sense of humour never hurt anyone. whats wrong with trying to raise a smile? some people on here need cheering up.

No not really, I have seen some replies that may have been hurtful to the worried person. Having said that, it is important that we all maintain a sense of humour and take a bit of ribbing. We must all bear in mind that there is another person wishing to draw on our experience at the other end of our comments, so it is important to keep it within acceptable terms!

Some are sensitive to gaining points; so they answer each and every question, in one word or two. That attitude discouraged me from 'asking' questions. Because then I had to read every answer including the non-sensible because they were in my email. Such answers should not gain any point. Then this forum shall become more sober and serious.
