I try not to do this.

But everything seems possible when you're caught in the moment...

How about you?

I try to keep them all especially the big ones. I promised my wife that there would be nobody but her and, including our engagement, I have kept this one for almost 26 years. I do try to avoid promising anything at work because something always comes up to slow progress. For example my supervisor assigns me a job, but before I'm finished some other supervisor or engineer has a hot job they want done right away. I just say,"No problem." and they leave me alone. Later when they come back to check my progress and find little or nothing done I tell them that I had to finish what I was doing before starting on their project. They aren't happy with this, but the rules are if they have something that needs done they have to go to my supervisor and he will decide what needs done first.

I do try to keep my word. Once upon a time a person was his word. It was enough to seal a deal with a hand shake. Today you must be very careful and judge by one's actions and character. If you can't do it (or wont) Don't promise it. It just makes you out to be a liar if you make a promise and never fulfill the expectation.

I don't make promises. The last promise I made was to my husband, the day we got married, and that is the only promise made to me that I remember being kept. I learned too young that promises get broken, so I learned not to make them. If I say that I will do something, I make damn sure I do it so that no one feels like I did, being let down.

yeah, most of my promises i can keep but the other ones, i just can't... especially if the promise was "i will never leave you" [friendship of course] and you just leave the next day because you were moving to a new country etc.., and if you just died... well.... random, but true..

I don't make promises that I cannot keep. A promise is a promise and that is all there is to it.

No. Only make promises I can keep, and even then, I preface them with "Unless something weird and unexpected happens."

I don't make promises unless I know I can keep them.

Action speaks louder than words.

I never promise anything, but deliver better than most.
