Because the media, and therefore society, place them on a pedastool due to their over-exposure. It's not right, but it's the way it happens.

Football is our national game and watched by millions. Fans of all clubs like to put their players on a pedestal and hero worship them. The papers and the media generally like to hype certain players up although they are quick to knock them back down again and they are therefore always in the limelight. Also with the money top players get they have the best cars, wear designer clothes and go to the "in" restaurants and clubs.
