Everything gets messy when it comes to writing. I am currently taking History 12 at my secondary school. We have done one unit test so far and I only scored 6 out of 25 on my essay response. In contrast, I scored 33 out of 35 on multiple choice questions. I need help on writing. How can I help myself to improve my writing? I become frustrated whenever I have to do an essay or response questions for homework.

Say it Explain it Repeat it You want to start your essay with a grabbing intro. A lot of vivid words can only help you. And just because it is an informative essay doesn't mean you can't make it interesting. Example: if you are asked to explain how your family has influenced who you are, you can start your essay with saying in a couple of sentences something like a memory, and then go into your thesis statement. Your thesis statement should include what you are going to talk about. A thesis statement should be written in 1-2 sentences. Throughout the body of your essay stories relating to the topic can only help strengthen your essay. A lot of instructors remind their students that they are helpful when you might not know what to say. And, again, use vivid words. You want to paint a picture in your readers head. Anybody can write an essay, but the ones that stick out are usually the ones with the better outcome, whether it be a good grade or admission to the college of your choice. The conclusion is basically restating and summarizing everything you just wrote. You're probably going to say your thesis statement again in this paragraph. And you're going to want to use a ending sentence that will leave an impression on your reader. The beginning and ending are the things that people will remember most about your essay, so make it good. Remember: An essay is usually 5 paragraphs; however, a 4 paragraph essay can be just as strong. If you plan to write your essay in 4 paragraphs your 2 paragraph body needs to be just as strong if not stronger than if it were 3 paragraphs.

It sounds like you are understanding the concept (33 out of 35 is very good). You just need more practice with writing. Why don't you try writing a quick outline before you write an essay on a test? If that's not helpful, just start with a list... highlight the major points that you want to cover - next make sure the order of everything is right (which is basically an outline), then try writing paragraphs from there.

1. Find out what a good essay is, asking your teachers. You may be surprised how differently they may answer this question.
If you know what they are expecting from you, it makes life easier, you know.
2. Ask them to show you(let you read thoroughly) examples of a good essay.
3. If there's a teacher you really get on well with, ask him to give you several topics for essay, write one by one as often as you can, check them together with the teacher.
4. make notes or keep a diary, devoted to this particular problem, describe your progress, note any good idea or any appraisal of your writing.
5.Alternatively, you may cooperate with your school-mate, who writes the best essays in your class.
let's it by now.
if I have any other ideas, I'll addd them here

Make sure you start with an introduction and finish with a conclusion.

Divide what you are going to say up into groups and make them into paragraphs.

Link the first sentence of paragraph to what you are going to explain in that paragraph. Think of the first sentence as a signpost sentence.

Try not to repeat yourself too much while you write and try not to ramble. Be sharp and to the point, but make sure you address all the issues.

Good luck!

first, you should know what is the difference between technical writing and creative writing, from there you can choose which one to use depending on the situation. It really helps to read more books, but if you don't have any passion in reading bulgy books, i suggest you must start reading pocket books or any book that is interesting to you... from there, you can get an idea and hopefully, you will develop what kind of writing style you are in to

Try to incoporate 5 new words that will grab your Teachers attention and a few metaphors etc...they love that kind of thing.
Grab the readers attention from the start with a bold statement or punctuation...oh and get the grammar...spelling right every time.
This should get the grades up...good luck.

Read more....it is a fact the more you read the more you will catch on to basic writing structure. As far as the quick fix, keep it simple and do not repeat yourself. Stay on the subject matter and keep the smaller relative stuff small.
