Quite possibly because we as American citizens are lazy. We are used to the freedoms we have, the notion that we can actually accomplish our dreams, that we can change our poverty stricken lives into an ambitious future. The opportunities that we have as Americans are not afford to many immigrants while residing in the homelands. Hence the reason for them to immigrate to America, "the land of the free." Once they are in an environment were they can flourish and make achievements, they take full advantage, strive to make their lives better, as well as the lives of future generations. Yet, we Americans are used to the privileges extended by a rich and powerful nation and unfortunately do not take full advantage. More often times, once people know better, they do better. Immigrants migrate to American and they get a chance to "see" better, leading them to want better and to do better (than they did in their home countries) that's why immigrants are so much more likely than to succeed.

My guess: Those who do immigrate are likely to be more willing to do what it takes to make that million. It takes a lot of hard work to immigrate to a new country and start a life over, and in many or most cases, people do immigrate for more opportunities than their country of origin offered. If they are willing to do the work of immigrating to begin with, I can imagine that they are willing to continue in their efforts and see their financial dreams come true. (And other dreams. Financial "success" is not everyone's dream)
That said, I question the "4 times" statistic? Of all millionaires, 80% of them are first-generation immigrants?

There is no proof that immigrants are 4x more likely. There is a lot of popular folklore out there to make us all feel good.
The statistics with the hard facts is those that inherit their wealth are able to succeed better in life financially.
