Natural selection. Eventually, the strong will start fighting each other, leaving itself open for the weak to regroup and build back up.

Whether you like it or not, it's still survival of the fittest, and the fittest are not necessarily those with the best physical attributes. The fittest are those that can adapt to the system, play the system, capitalise on benefits and loopholes of the system, and so on and so forth.
