Natural selection. Eventually, the strong will start fighting each other, leaving itself open for the weak to regroup and build back up.

Because the strong are becoming more confident in their abilities, whilst the weak are becoming more apathetic and just sitting back and letting them get on with it!

Whether you like it or not, it's still survival of the fittest, and the fittest are not necessarily those with the best physical attributes. The fittest are those that can adapt to the system, play the system, capitalise on benefits and loopholes of the system, and so on and so forth.
