im on marvelon the 28 day pill, just for 1 mth so far. Is it normal for my period to be heavier and to have more painful cramps than when i wasnt on the pill??, i always thought the pill was supposed to make your periods lighter and less painful..althought this isnt the reason im on it.
Before the pill i used to have very irregular periods -dont know if that is anything to do with it?
thanks

after 3 months the side effects of the medication should settle down.....normally oral contraceptives do decrease menstrual flow and cramping - the first couple of months you may have breakthrough bleeding, etc.....give it a bit of time - if after 3 months you are still having problems your doctor will likely try you on another pill.

When I started the pill, my doctor told me to give it three months to get an idea of how it is working. The obvious exception is if you are having really bad symptoms.

See what happens next month. If it's about the same and you haven't had these kind of cramps before, call your doctor.

you usually have to wait at least 3 months before it starts taking effect.
