speed isn't everything. Shrotly there will be no Pentium anymore. We now have the Core 2 Duo. The way it works is something Intel finally cuaght onto that AMD has been doing for years. It's using a lower clock speed but more lanes of information. This increases efficiency and decreases heat output. They are blazing compared to even the best previous Intels. I hate to be the guy to mention it but I'd suggest staying with the new AM2 socket from AMD. Intel is about ot be doing a socket type change and will require yet another upgrade to your mobo for compatability. I know what works and I'm a fan of AMD but I really like the new intels too. AMD just has intel on price and the performance will soon be topped. Either way Core 2 kicks butt but AMD isn't bad with their now renowned X2's either. But flatout, Pentium is dead and was a waste of energy and money.

Speed has pretty much peaked, it is all about architecture and number of cores now. There WILL be another Pentium and a Celeron actually, but they will be single core versions of the Core 2 Duos targeted at value users. They are set to debut this spring.

There will be NO Pentium 5.

The Pentium series is dead. The current series is called "Core 2 Duo" and the next will be called "Core 2 Quad.

i dont belive a pentium 5 is even in the works. they have just released the core 2 duo wich is quite a nice chipset as is and are working on a quad core rocessor. and processors dont get relesed according to speed. its the arcitecture of the chipset. so you could have a pentium 2 running at 3ghz but it older arcitechture wouldn't run as efficiently as a pentium 4
