I'm a senior right now, and I'm taking my SATs in November, I want to apply at a California State College, I have a 3.6 GPA. My problem is, I haven't figured out what I want to major in. Should I go to a four year after high scool or go to a community college to figure out what I want to be first.

Most people I know who go to Community College - wander about in the wilderness for 2 years and then end up not continuing at all. People I know who have decent jobs and good careers after college are the ones who did their four year first and then landed a job. Part of the reason is that you develop contacts. You'll be more effective in networking since professionals you meet will be more familiar to provide their recommendations about you and such. If you do everything at one school, you'll have more prospects to get a job when you're finished to pay off any debt if you have it. The longer you wait around to decide the longer it will be before you're finished. So, with that said - choosing a major - choose one that gives you alot of flexible options. Nursing for example - gosh - you can do almost anything with a four year nursing degree from working in a psych ward, school system, missionary, hospital, therapy center, social services, the county, visiting nursing, I could go on and on and on. Pick a major where you're options are nearly unlimited - then branch out from there.

Go for the four year. College used to be about growth and maturity, which will help regardless of what you choose.

I went all four years without knowing what I wanted to do. I've just retired from a great career as an interoperability systems architect, which, quite frankly, just did not even exist until after I graduated from college, but I needed all that I had learned to do it!

Good luck!

I get a basic degree like your Associates in Arts Transfer degree at a Community College, till ya figure out what ya want to be.

I changed my mind 4 times, before I finally picked! All that truely matters is that you have the piece of paper that says "you picked, you stuck with it, you graduated"

Good Luck!

What do you like to do in your spare time could help with what subjects to take in school.
