Sorry to tell you this, but most Chess "Engines" (as they're commonly referred to by chess players) cost money to use.
There are some free ones that you can try, but they may not be totally desirable.

XBoard / WinBoard -- http://www.tim-mann.org/xboard.html
The one that's closest to a commercial version is ChessBase Light, as it's based on an old version of ChessBase (which Fritz is based on).
Just try these out & keep the one that you like... otherwise, just suck it up & buy the latest version of ChessMaster (the most popular Chess Engine on the market) for $20
