I would ask my friend if he would be unhappy about me dating his ex first before I go ahead.
Other than that, I dun think there is anything wrong with it.

There is no such things as right or wrong in relationship. If you really like someone, you could date her if she had a clean break with your friends otherwise people will see you as the third party trying to wrecked other happiness even you are not in the wrong.
It also depends on yourself coz some of us will never dare to date our friends ex gf/bf even they have break off coz they worry about the gossip that may come to them. So it actually depends on how you see things.

To me, there is no right and wrong when it comes to love... If both of you are really in love, go ahead! I am sure your friend would understand. Since their relationship is over and the girl is single, it is alright for her to be wooed by others, even if it is her ex boyfriend's best friend...

Go for it since you mention that it your friend ex-girlfriend and not girlfriend. Why should you bother about gossiping since you really have feeling for this girl.
