My renter has informed me he wants to be paid for the work he has done to the house he is renting from me. This is the first I have heard of this, and of course I have never given any approval for him to do any work for me. So I don't think I owe him anything, right? Also I have a policy of not having my renter do any kind of work for me.

No you don't..unless it was an agreement in the lease.
Being a renter...I was able to come to an agreemant with the owner that I would do minor work on the property.

Be thankful you have someone who cares where they live and willing to do the work, rather than destroy your property.

You should....just for the understanding.....either repay him or reduce his rent....as long as he has receipts for the work done....only for supplies..not labor....also convey to him that any major work..like plumbing or roofing needs to be brought to your attention so you can get a qualified contractor to do the work.

If you do not want him to repair or remodel any part of youtr home..it must be written on your lease...and any repairs that need attention needs to be brought to your attention.
Be a good landlord..not an a s s.

review your rental agreement. is there a clause defining this situation? usually the rental agreement or lease defines this..the only way a tenant can do repair work and receive payment is if a needed repair was not completed by the landlord [this would be a faucet leak or things similar] and the tenant waited several months for the repair , then the tenant can take a reasonable amount from the rent to cover this repair, but usually the repair has to be from a repair worker, business, and a receipt is sent from a professional, and deducted from the rent owned by the tenant....

if he has dont work to the home you can actually sue and evict that person do to the fact the lease states taht renter can not do any addtions painting ect. to the home unless approved by you.

The renter chose to do this it is out of their own pocket now unless it is items that needed to be fixed and you as the owner have not fixed them do to not knowing abou them then still they may ask for it but have to submit a maintance request to you and you ,have depending to what needs to be fixed,10 days normal to fix them.
SO if they didnt send you a maintance request and they fixed it on their own then they cant ask for the money for it. T

No. In fact, the possibility exists that the renter violated the lease even if what they did was needed or beneficial to the property.

If he has ask you to repair something, and you did not, or if it was something such as sink, toilet,(plumbing),heat, that needed attention. If it is just cosmetic, than no. If he is fixing things and doing a good job, you might want to take something off of the rent. You should be glad he is fixing, instead of destroying. You should see the mess that I started on today in a rental!

you are able to likely get the owner and tenant act on-line, so i might want to start with that, it would want to have a sparkling call like Residential Tenancies or something. i imagine you want a court docket order for an eviction, in basic terms be sure you have carried out each and every thing you're meant to have carried out (upkeep and so on.) so a concepts as i comprehend snow has no longer something to do with it.

read your rental agreement. What did he do, he should give you a full report of what he did and how the money was spent. I cant help really if you dont say what it was for. ask him to explain why and what for.
