I have a strong dislike of the UN. They appear to be as corrupt as any corporation and harbor an enormous amount of anti American sentiment.
Although I would probably support the US leaving the UN, Im not convinced it would be advantageous to us. Certainly the UN has to be cleaned up. If they are to be recognized as a global police force, they need to react properly when rules are broken by rogue nations. Otherwise they become irrelevant.
A simple comparison... If a parent constantly tells a child "dont do that" and no punishment is ever administered, the child will most likely continue to do whatever they want to do. What motivation would they have to stop? The UN acts as a in-complacent parent that fails to discipline their children. Crude analogy but I think you get my point.
If the UN were to be reformed it has potential to make the world a better place. Although ANY nation giving their sovereignty to the UN would always be a huge mistake.

Well I am not an American, but if US gets out of UN, UN will lose its importance.
Common buddy, it was US who played an important role in forming UN. UN will be short of funds.
Times are not always same. Even America needs UN. America is not a lone super power. China and India pose the biggest challenge to America with respect to TALENT and ECONOMY.
Just look, a weak and fragile nation like Pakistan in today's scenario is speaking of bringing US and UK to its knees and in some respects they are pretty correct. (SOURCE - THE TIMES)
If US wants to survive its needs cooperation of other fellow nations and that is possible only through UN. And this is the case with every other nation.
In today's world there can be no UN without US and vice-versa.
Good Day Buddy.

Yes. We still have NATO in place to help protect our interests. We get complaints when we try to do good, and when we stay out of a situation. We are in a no win situation with the UN. Let others fund that joke.

US if not careful might not have a choice. Us has already been dropped from the human rights council because of its position on torture, arraest without trial, holding with out trial, arrest without charges, holding without charges, holding without communication, secret prisons and murder of people arrested without warrant or charges. Nobody in the world believes in the reasons given for the invasion and occupation of Iraq and are doubting the purpose of the Afghanistan adventure. The small guys are starting to discuss what to do about what they percieve as a threat to world peace. Nobody likes a bully.

To avoid being misinterpreted as controlled by US, it has to withdraw from the UN but the latter will lose a lot of contributions from the US.

Sure, why not? If America is going to commit suicide, there is no point in doing a half-a*s job. We already have no friends and zero respect in the world. Bush has botched the war on terror so miserably that he has certainly signed the death warrant for 10s of millions of Americans. The rest of the world will now just milk us dry and leave us to rot.

Yes, because we're the only ones that finance it, and it is an anti-American institution that does nothing but try to help terrorists. Also, it is corrupt to the core.
