My baby is 7 months and hasn't started crawling yet. She hasn't even rolled over yet. Should I be worried? I place her on her belly for supervised play time but she hates it. Any other suggestions I can try to help her to start crawling?

She did roll over once by herself and she does it with my help, but won't do it without my help. When I place a toy on her side out of reach, she looks at me like "Are you serious?" and won't even pay attention to it after that.=]

Babies frequently dislike tummy time. If you do a little bit every day, they come to actually enjoy it (I know that might seem hard to believe). Tough it out and you'll see success. Not crawling at 7 months is totally normal, many babies don't crawl until 9 or 10 months. They all develop on their own time, every child with a different schedule. Tummy time absolutely helps because it helps your baby develop muscles that are required for crawling. See www.babycenter.com for more info.

Your daughter should definitely be rolling over by now. If she truly isn't, you need to bring this up to the pediatrician immediately. You should also contact Early Intervention Services to have your daughter evaluated for development. You don't need a doctor approval and the evaluation and services (if needed) are free. I wouldn't even worry about the crawling issue yet, b/c most likely, she won't be anywhere near crawling if she can't even roll over yet. You may want to bring her to a Developmental Pediatrian as well. If you don't mind me asking, was your daughter born premature? I ask b/c if this is the case, her milestones will be delayed. Usually, a baby rolls over between 3-5 months for the first time. You'd have to correct a preemie's age though. Can your daughter sit up unassisted? Can she lift her head off the ground while laying on her belly? Does she have proper head control? You need to consider all of these things, and these types of things will be discussed by the evaluator from Early Intervention.

Don't try to get her to start crawling before she can roll over. It's true that crawling is not a "true" milestone (b/c some babies skip crawling and just start walking), but rolling over is definitely a milestone that counts. If she can't roll over yet, she doesn't have enough strength to support her trunk for crawling.

I wish you the best of luck with your daughter.

I wouldn't start worrying yet.... I had a baby that started crawling at 4 months, and another that didn't start crawling until almost 9 months. Every baby is different, and I was always concerned if one of my kids didn't do things "on time". I think as long as she is progressing a little bit, then you probably don't need to worry. My doc has always looked at progression instead of what all the baby books say babies are supposed to be doing. (Two of my four kids hated being on their bellies too!)
Good luck!

Average age for crawling is 6 to 8 months. Some babies take a little longer than this.
These milestones - rolling over, crawling etc vary form children to children. However for your satisfaction consult your paediatrician. Spend as much time as you can with your child. Keep taking to your baby. Make the baby feel secure. You will notice these changes occuring overnight. Your baby can roll over in the morning tomorrow.

Don't be worried, just keep doing what you're doing! Babies develop at different rates - my daughter didn't start crawling until the day before nine months. She is just an easy-going baby that won't be rushed. She is now over a year and refuses to walk. She's very bright and interactive, just does things on her own time line!

Crawling is around 6-9 months. As for rolling over....as long as your little one has done it at least once, there is no problem. Some babies are just lazy and don't want to roll over! Like I said though, as long as the baby has done it at least once, it shows that the muscle tone is there. That is what is important.

Hi,
I have three kids and they started crawling between nine months and eleven months.
So please stop worrying.
I have spoken to other mothers and they love to tell you and show off how clever there baby's where at crawling and walking early. But the funny thing is it didn't make any difference to them when they grew up. There where no hopeful Olympic runners amongst them.

The hardest time is with your first born, you can't help but worry about everything and everyone one has an opinion to share with you that can add to worry and stress.

When you have your second child it gets easier, so for now don't let things worry you to much.

A little bit maybe, my son rolled about three months and crawled at four months, my daughter rolled around three month and crawled around four and a half months. Try just laying her down and rolling her yourself, or lay her on her side. But I would suggest talking with a doctor she should have an appt coming soon for her 8 month, so you can talk then or if you are to worried then call now and make an appt.

It can really happen anytime after 5 or 6 months. My girl didn't crawl till 9 months cause she hated being on her stomach. Then she crawled for all of 2 weeks before walking. I think it just depends on the child.

On average 6-9 months. I wouldn't be to concerned about it all baby's develop at their own rate. I'd just take it slow get her one of those baby gyms and let her lie on her back if she wants to bad enough she'll roll over herself, once she does that and is used to it, place some of her favorite toys/things a little out of her reach to give her motivation to go and get it.
