As a new dance teacher, I am running out of creative ways to keep my young students motivated and engaged during stretching and other exercises. Although most of the kiddies enjoy it, one can only pretend to dance around as butterfies and hop like bunnies to a point. Right now I am looking for more ideas to keep my tiny-tots active and having fun!

Although most of the kiddies enjoy it, one can only pretend to dance around as butterfies and hop like bunnies to a point. Right now I am looking for more ideas to keep my tiny-tots active and having fun! Does anyone know of some new verbal imagery, awesome songs, or even simple props that can inspire little ones to dance and warm up?

during the butterfly stretch ask everyone what color butterfly they are and where they are flying to today. When I was little we layed of mats and did "animal" stretches like the bear walk. We pretended to be bears, seals (walk on hands with legs crossed dragging behind you) bunnies, frogs, ducks, and crabs. when we tried to touch our feet to our head we called it the "bird cage" and we tried to bend our backs so that the "little bird" couldn't fly out of the gap between our feet and our head. or we would lay on our backs and pedal like we were riding our bikes. Play familiar kids songs.

Imagery? I'd rather go for some fast-music. Paintings are gonna slow 'em down.
