Because they want to belong. It is usually poor, dis functional young males, that have too many burdens at home, drug addiction, alcoholism, abandonment issues, poverty. It is really sad, that they end up joining gangs just because their home life is lacking. They believe the false promises of power and control, but they end up in the criminal system if not in prison. Blame their lack of self esteem and dysfunctional family life.
