An employer can require that as a requirement of employment that you speak English. However, it is completely against the law to prohibit employees from speaking spanish on the just because he doesn't like. Title VII of the Civil Rights Acts prohibits discrimination based on race, nationality or ethnicity. A prohibition or declaration that only english may be spoken at all times would disproportionally impact those of Hispanic or Latin American descent who speak both English and Spanish. A law prohibiting speaking spanish is illegal.

An employer can tell you to speak only English on the job. This is not discriminatory. It's just good common sense. Communication is a key to running any bussiness, so the employer should have the right to standardize communication within his organization.

Language in a workplace can be made as a policy by the employer usually the official language of the state and the principal language used in the locality. Thus, Spanish can be made legal or not by the employer.

Not that I know of.....However in the interest of industrial safety. I'd like everyone in my facility to speak English. For in the event of an emergency everyone can respond, understand and no confusion.
