In Essenes, that's what a personal goal is...a plateau you want to achieve. If one is to achieve his goals then he must let nothing stop him. Whatever love life he develops, should fit within those goals...not stop them.
Of course that's not an excuse to not show that special one you care and give proper attention as well.
If there is a conflict here, the two of you should have a "meeting of the minds" so you can get back to having fun again.

because their personal goals matter more to them than the people. Or they think that by obtaining the goal... helps the people. Depends on the person.
Most people though... once they lose someone close, have a health scare, have a near death experience... know what matters. They take time to listen and be around people that matter...rather than chase a goal.

because people often look at it as their acheivements and carreer will take them farther than love because in love u get hurt and there is a possibility that u could fail and not be with the one you love but in society when u work hard at what u want 9 times out of 10 u get it..

I wish I knew what you meant. If you are talking about money or career it's a shame but a lot of people think that the more money you make the more successful you are. What they don't realize is that money is not going to be your companion whn you get older

It's not always because of selfishness (inconsideration of others) that they do it... many times it's because of self-love (caring about very important needs that they have).
We all need to love & take care of ourselves... & it doesn't mean we're being selfish.
