Bon Scott was a way better vocalist. He could have gone to another band and been successful. James Hetfield is not a great singer but what he does works for Metallica. James Hetfield is also a great guitar player and excellent song writer.
So, as far as vocal skills, Bon Scott was better, but Hetfield is a far better musician and song writer.

Bon Scott was a legend. Hetfield I respect. But nothing compares to the 'often licked, never beaten' style of Scott.
Scott's voice brought AC/DC out of Australia and into fame. Hetfield is a great musician, but come on man. It's obvious that Bon Scott is both a better vocalist and a better legend.

Although I am a fan of both, I would have to say Bon Scott. He lived his life as he sang in his music. Such a tragic loss. Would have been nice to see what the future would have brought, had he lived.
