As everyone else said, the drive to Maine is 2 hours. It's an easy drive. It sounds like you are spending the majority of your time in Portland rather than Boston. If so, you should definitely rent the car. There is not much for public transportation in Portland, you will need a car. Amtrak is also available. I think tickets are about $40, so for a family it might make more sense financially just to rent the car.

Plan for just under 2 hours if you drive about 70-75mph with little traffic (there is no traffic outside route 128). I always see a few cops pulling speeders over along 95N, but everyone drives about 70-75 mph (posted speed is 65mph). There are several tolls (.75+$1.00) each way and 'Fast Lane' works there. Not a bad drive.

About 2 hours roughly, can take less time, if you aren't going at a busy time. Probably as little as an hour and a half, but usually when I've gone up 95 the traffic is pretty bad. Try leaving mid-day or something, and you might cut off a little time.

It could take about 2 hours going down 95. If you get stuck in rush hour traffic it could take longer. It also depends on where in Boston you are going and whether or not you take 93 or Rte 1 in.

The distance is about 107 miles; the time depends on how fast you drive and how bad the traffic is!
