I don't believe in having a war just to have a war but at the same time I don't believe in peace just for peace's sake. I say whatever needs to be done should be done, whether it's approved of by the public or not. I'm sick and tired of hearing about weak-minded idiots protesting war just because they can't handle conflict of any kind. It's just like sports, the idiots in the stands who think they know everything about sports are always yelling at the players to do this, do that, don't do this, don't do that, but they don't know what it's like to have the pressure of actually being out on the field. Same thing with our military. People love to speculate about how they think their way of handling this or that situation, but if they were to spend even one day out on the front line they would most likely be changing their tune. It's easy to criticize, but unless you can definitively prove that your way is the best way bar none, there's no reason to criticize people who are just trying to do their job.

Your husband was a good man for going out there and doing what he had to do to defend our country, and it is very much to his credit that he was willing to die for the sake of our country and all the freedoms we enjoy here.

I am also a bit too old for the draft, and my kids are at the moment a bit too young. But if we started a war and it went on for a few years, my kids could be looking that possibility of being drafted.

I do not want the draft. Most military men I know also do not want the draft, since it tends to get people who have no real interest in being soldiers. After 25 years of an all-volunteer army, trying to incorporate draftees would be a major problem.

Also, I believe that if the cause is just, the reasons sound, and the threat real, you will not need a draft, you'll get volunteers. And this is why we are getting so few volunteers for Iraq.

I think that agreements have been made now that if there is another draft those who run to Canada can be deported back into the US. So the Canada thing will not work anymore. I don't see any kind of draft unless military problems escalate a lot more than what is happening now.

I believe that everyone should be required to some form of service to thier country. Wether that be military should be based on the individual, thier needs and thier abilities. In turn they would recieve some form of education, training or experience and the country would have valuable resources in all areas including military. This would seem to benifit everyone in more than the tangible items above, but also in the fact that the "country" is the people and the results of the additional training or experience recieved by the "draftees" is multiplied by the service they perform for the country.

While I am philsophically for the draft, and I am a veteran with 10+ years of service, and a verteran of Iraq, I dont think I could actually deliver my kids up if they were called. Sure, I could go to war, no problem. I would have no problem fighting, killing, or being killed. But I dont think I could let my son go through that. Maybe I am just too self-interested to let him go. Maybe there should be an option for the draft. If someone you know is called up, you can take their spot and keep them off the rolls. I would go in my son's place if that ever happened and I could take his spot. But if I couldn't take his spot, I would probably kidnap him and take him to europe.

well remember how at the end of the sixties and the early seventies where it was no longer about peace and love and was a lot more about militant protest..well it would be worse,if they instituted the draft now this country would explode

well, you can thank our little anti illegal friends for getting loud and getting a huge border fence project underway also to "keep illegals out" ... it will "keep draft dodgers in" as well ... and the draft will come again when iran is hit ... if the public isnt in a state to deal with it then there will be another large "terror attack" to get people stampedeing behind it ....

the old America too over strong countries like japan and Germany. nowadays we let the politicians talk too much. china will not inspect Korean borders and all we do is pout at them. well if it was back in the days we would say "What'd you say you f*cking chink?!"
i serve this great country also, but sometimes i believe our politics are only talking while we die fighting.
