You might try the story: The Mirror of Matsuyama, which should be found in any collection of Japanese folktales. On the web, you can search with Yahoo, or Google.

The only one I am aware of with a similar title is the The Mirror of Matsuyama
There is also one about the mirror and the bell, but as it is not a happy tale, I doubt it is the one you are seeking.
There is also a Chinese story about a mirror that is brought home, and the wife not knowing what a mirror is goes to her mother to complain that her husband has brought home a new wife.. the mother looks in the mirror and comments that he has brought her mother home as well...

(and also a more contemporary version where a whole family is thrown into confusion by the gift of a mirror when each sees a different stranger in it.)
