My boyfriend and I recently bought a dwarf hamster, and he went to go pick him up when he bit him, and his natural reaction was to move his hand back, but our hamster hit the floor. He's bleeding out of his anus, it was bad but it's lightening up, but it's been about 45 minutes-an hour and it hasn't stopped. However, he's still active as ever. Is that a good sign, should we take him to the vet, or should we be prepared for the worst?

Thats odd. I had a dwarf Hamster(i have a new one now, even though my old one bit me i loved it) It bit me, and idd move my hand back quickly and it would hit the ground also, but it never acted hurt or bled. If I were you, idd call a vet, and maybe make an appointment.

I would take it to a vet that specializes in exotic pets. You will be wasting your time and money if you take it to a vet with no experience in dealing with hamsters. It's good he is still active, but remember how small the hamster is, only so much blood is in that little body.

Hammy may have ruptured an anal vessel or it could be more serious. Hammys are little and may be fragile. For your own peace of mind you could take him to vets but prepare for the worst. Although this probably won't help the little guy much, it will ease you. He may pass through this ordael without a bit of trouble. .hope he does.

i would take him to a vet, although i find it strange he'd be bleeding after falling, most hamsters can fall from pretty high places and be fine, he may have a medical problem that you were unaware of before, it could be really serious, also in the future dont go with a dwarf hamster they have a tendancy to be less people friendly

i am sorry to sai kristin but your litle pall is on the road. all you can do now is to make his last days or hours the best in his life and prepare a shoe box. if you want you can take him to the vet but the chaces are 80 to 20 i my gunea pig fell from 30 cm and three hours later it was dead I wish you best of luck and i hope your pet gets better
