It is crazy. The place is ultra competitive, everyone applying has like a 4.0 GPA and extra-curriculars etc. How can you really distinguish yourself and make yourself stand out when there are so many outstanding applicants? Would really like a response from someone that has gone to these schools, though all answers are more than welcome. Also, do they care if you mess up your first semester in college? I am at Mcgill University right now and am really struggling. I am finding it hard to adjust to university life and this is affecting my schoolwork. I think I might have like a C average in my first semester. Will they pay much attention to that? Or do they appreciate the difficulties of adjusting to University life?

Wow people on this site are naive. The true answer is most likely no. There is a small chance but it is pretty damn small. These schools get thousands and thousands of applications from people with great scores, but you haven't done **** outside of school to make you stand out and that will almost definitely keep you out of the top ivy leagues. You definitely have a shot at the other ivy league schools though (iffy at Columbia).

Oh, no Harvard and Yale are doing a cross country search for C students, and they weep and sob when someone says college life is tough. The new image that Yale is going for these days is average.
What they like is people who capitalize the words medical school in a sentence for no reason.

YES they care. If you're screwing up in college already, why would they take you!!! They're gonna take anyone who hasen't failed yet over you. You cost yourself a shot by not being top in your class already.
